5 ways to make a small bathroom look larger…. with tiles.
1)Tile all the way to the ceiling.
By eliminating the horizontal dividing line on your walls, you open the space by creating the impression of higher ceilings. Along with making a space look bigger, it creates a sense of luxury and strong visual impact.
2) Keep it simple.
Use a similar colour palette throughout the space. Lots of different colours and patterns in a small bathroom segments the space and makes it appear small & cluttered. Think light & bright. Create visual interest by using textured or patterned tiles in similar hues along with a solid coloured tile.
3) Paint walls the same colour as your main tile.
If your bathroom is only partially tiled, paint the rest of the wall space the same colour as your main tiles. This unifies the space and reduces segmenting which comes from having several contrasting surfaces. Using grout that is the same colour as your tiles also helps create a more unified look.
4) The wider the better –
Use horizontal lines to give the impression of more width. If your bathroom is long and narrow, use horizontal floor tiles to widen the space and make it look less cramped.
Bonus Tips
Use clear glass in the shower.
Shower curtains and patterned glass create the effect of an extra wall. Clear glass shower screens reflect the light more effectively and open the space. For a seamless look, consider a frameless shower screen as these get rid of visual barriers.
Go Big … with Mirrors.
Mirrors reflect light and act like windows in small bathrooms. The more light you can reflect, the bigger your bathroom will look. Opt for large mirrors or mirror a large portion of the wall. This will bring more light in and create the illusion of a bigger space.
